Lights for Liberty

Lights for Liberty Vigil at T. Don Hutto Residential Center in Taylor, TX.

UUWaco, along with hundreds of others, participated in a protest and vigil on Friday, July 12, 2019, at T. Don Hutto Residential Center in Taylor, TX. The center, once a medium security prison, houses women waiting to hear the status of their asylum requests. These women followed the required, legal process to seek asylum in the United States. Many have been held in this center for months without hearing about their status. Their daily lives are regulated very strictly, just as a prisoner’s life would be regulated; however, these women have committed no crimes. Along with hundreds of thousands of US citizens, UUWaco believes the government should not discriminate against or incarcerate migrants.
