Social Action Opportunities

With a focus on ecology, the Social Action Team has hosted vermicomposting (worm composting) workshops for the community.  These workshops have been sold out, with waiting lists for another one.  More workshops under consideration include water conservation and home energy efficiency.

Other community activities/interests include: Martin Luther King annual wreath-laying and candle-lighting ceremonies, Animal Birth Control Clinic, Meals On Wheels (deliveries to over 70 Waco residents twice weekly), Community Race Relations Coalition (hosting July 23 event), Planned Parenthood (volunteers for annual Nobody's Fool conference), Fan Club for Caritas, monthly Cereal Sundays for Caritas, Habitat for Humanity Interfaith Build, and Talitha Koum Nurture Center.  For the first time, UUFW will participate in the Interfaith Crop Hunger Walk this October.

The Social Action Team also chooses the agency receiving the donations from the Waldo's Coffeehouse events.  Our social action focus is primarily local, with funds raised for activities benefitting our Waco community.  At UUFW, "service is our prayer."
